Last week, I celebrated my aunt’s birthday in Sumire, Jakarta. My aunt had purposely chosen Sumire over more grandiose venues because she prefers the simplicity and intimacy offered by a teppanyaki dinner.
Sumire is among the timeless places in Jakarta able to survive the city’s relentless tide of new restaurants. Their food is painfully honest and simple: just salt, pepper and quality ingredients. Within Jakarta, the quality of their Wagyu and Kobe beef can only be compared to the likes of Ebeya Steak House at the Ritz-Carlton.
